We recently heard of the sad news that Wilma Ferguson has passed away. It is likely only the ‘older faces’ in the industry will know of Wilma, who was the wife of Bob Ferguson. Wilma worked with Bob as a successful distributor in Scotland. Bob’s company, ‘R W Ferguson’, was based near Edinburgh, and in its day, was one of the most profitable of all gift houses with a turnover around ?3M, 4 staff, and an enviable gross profit. The success of the business enabled him to buy property in Edinburgh, which proved to be a very astute investment. When Bob retired from the promotional merchandise industry, he just shut the door, refusing all offers to buy him out for his mailing list – he said he did not want anyone else trading on his name. After retiring Bob & Wilma spent much time travelling around the world.
