Regrettably, our industry has lost one of the best-known pioneers of advertising business gift products.
John and his co-director Bernard started Burostat in 1968, manufacturing HF welded vinyl products, which were originally supplied to the British Advertising Gift Distributor Association (BAGDA), and from there the product range grew substantially with the addition of leather goods made by Burostat and a full range of imported products from Europe and China. All of these products were printed in-house with screen printing, pad printing, transfer printing and foil blocking.
As a sales tool, John created the Burostat catalogue, which grew to 146 pages by the mid 1970’s and by that time, the Burostat catalogue was being used by the vast majority of distributors in the industry, who in turn built successful businesses for themselves.
Those of you who got to meet John, will know that he was a charismatic, larger than life person, with great integrity, an extreme sense of humour and real fun to be with, but he was also very smart, both mentally and physically.
John passed away peacefully on 8th April 2021 and will be missed by his many friends and acquaintances in the industry.
Rest in peace John with our respect and warm thoughts, and our sincere condolences to your wife and family.
