For 15 years The Leather Business UK has through its Wholly Owned Subsidiary Contemporary Leather been making high quality leather goods in Chennai India. Initially the business just made for the corporate market in the UK operating from a 6000 sq. ft. factory with 40 staff. Ten years ago saw expansion into a 25,000 sq. ft. factory and a workforce of around 350.  In the latter part of last year a further 25,000 sq. ft factory was added and the workforce now tops 750 people.

 

Chairman John Thorp comments “ We are absolutely delighted with our growth post Covid and we now have customers across both the Corporate and Retail Markets and we supply to many parts of the world including U.S.A and Canada, Europe , The Far East , The Middle East and of course the UK. We have aimed to create an excellent environment for our workers and only this month we passed once again the annual audit for SA8000 and SMETA 4 . We are one of the few companies who provide a free hot cooked lunch to our workforce and we also bus many of our workers to and from work at our expense. Our factories make a wide range of products from Small Leather Goods through to Hand Bags , Laptop bags and Rucksacks. We can and do make almost anything in leather and or PU”.   

 

We are hugely mindful of our responsibility to the planet and take many steps to recycle and conserve e.g. all packaging is either recycled or recyclable as are all writing pads. Wherever possible component parts are recycled or recyclable -we are constantly striving  to help the environment.
