UPDATE: We this evening received this statement from Smithfield Consultants Ltd: “Corporate Merchandise has not yet been placed into liquidation but ceased trading as of today, 1st October. Begbies Traynor are only advising on placing the company into liquidation at this stage, and there has been no completion or sale of assets, stock or current order book.” Confusingly, we are unclear who can actually be contacted about the situation right now. For suppliers, like ourselves, who are now creditors we will publish the confirmed administrators/liquidators once known. ————————————– Previous Story: The Corporate Merchandise Company based in Milton Keynes has today gone into Liquidation, with all staff being made redundant. This is a sad day for the industry as CMC have been one of the UK’s top three distributors for a long time. The level of debt is as yet unclear, and we are hoping that there are not some devastating knock on effects for some suppliers. Sourcing City are happy to publish the CV’s from any former CMC staff member looking for a new position in the trade, please just get in touch. Having spoken to Tony McFarland (an original founder of CMC over seventeen years ago) we understand that he is looking to buy the stocks, assets & current order book through BPL. The new company will be starting out once again under Tony’s leadership & he has said that he would aim to complete all unfilled CMC orders currently with suppliers, all paid for by the new BPL company. This will not help most suppliers who have current unpaid debts we know, but it may be a crumb of comfort for some with undelivered orders perhaps. As soon as we have more information we will publish in Sourcing City News.
